FCC Announces Tentative Agenda for August 2023 Open Meeting
Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced that the items below are tentatively on the agenda for the 2023 August Open Commission Meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 3, 2023:
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has worked with the Census Bureau to gather and analyze federal data to identify the “covered populations” defined by the Digital Equity Act. The Digital Equity Act Population Viewer enables users to locate and understand where these populations are concentrated, at both the state and local levels.
The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program's Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) describes the program’s requirements. An important requirement is that each Eligible Entity must submit an Initial Proposal that includes a BEAD “challenge process.” Join NTIA for a webinar that provides an overview and outlines the role that a unit of local government, nonprofit organization, or broadband service provider may participate in the challenge process.

House Subcommittee to Consider Bills to Reauthorize NTIA
The House Commerce Committee's Communications and Technology Subcommittee will convene on July 12 to consider a number of bills to reauthorize the US Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The main bill under consideration is the NTIA Reauthorization Act of 2023 (H.R. 4510).
Speakers include former FCC Chairs Richard Wiley, William Kennard, Mignon Clyburn, and Ajit Pai. Former FCC Commissioners Deborah Taylor Tate and Jonathan Adelstein will moderate the panel discussion.
Topics will include universal broadband, 6G networks, artificial intelligence, Section 230, M&A policy, and minority media and telecom ownership.
