The NTIA is hard at work developing the National Spectrum Strategy that many expect to be shared publicly sometime this Fall. The World Radio Conference (WRC-23) commences in November in Dubai.  Meanwhile, Congress has still not restored the FCC’s auction authority. Our session takes place at a unique moment of time for the business and policy realms shaping the future of U.S. digital economy.

U.S. mobile network operators are expanding their 5G build across the country, and naturally we see more and more 5G use cases coming to market that drive demand for more 5G use cases.  Solutions to expand capacity in the absence of access to additional spectrum resources, like carrier aggregation and network slicing, are nascent.  Congress has not extended the FCC’s authority to auction spectrum and the Defense Department is raising alarms about commercial operations happening in any of the bands being identified as best for commercial use.

The discussion will feature speakers with expertise across the business, technical, regulatory, policy and political spheres prepared to delve into detail about whether the US is fast becoming a spectrum island, and if so, what this will mean for national security, the U.S. economy and the pace of innovation across virtually every sector of the U.S. economy.
