Lawmakers Urge White House to Nominate Rosenworcel FCC Chair

Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18), senior member of the House Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, and Rep. Jackie Speier (CA-14), Co-Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, led a letter to White House Chief of Staff Ronald Klain in support of Jessica Rosenworcel to be named the permanent Chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission. The letter is signed by 33 Democratic women. Acting Chairwoman Rosenworcel would be the first woman to permanently chair the FCC in its nearly 90-year history.

Rep Angie Craig Introduces Broadband MAPS Act

Rep Angie Craig (D-MN), a member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, introduced a bill to ensure that investments made by the federal government to expand broadband access are informed by data collection and analysis as required by federal law.

Bipartisan Letter to FCC on Rural Broadband Deployment Questions Rural Digital Opportunity Fund

 Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC), Senator John Thune (R-SD), and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) led a bipartisan letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai and fellow commissioners regarding implementation of programs to help close the digital divide in rural America. With the recent completion of the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) auction, the letter urges the FCC to ensure recipients of broadband deployment funding can deliver on their commitments. In total, 157 Representatives and Senators joined Walberg on the letter.

California Democrats Urge Incoming Attorney General to Prioritize Net Neutrality

Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA-18and 13 members of California’s congressional delegation sent a letter to Attorney General-designate Merrick Garland urging him to withdraw the US federal government’s lawsuit against the State of California over its net neutrality law as one of the first actions after the inauguration. “With the new Administration, we have an opportunity to restore the damage the Trump FCC has done to the free and open internet in the last four years,” said Rep.

Rep. McNerney Demands Transparency for Consumers’ Internet and Phone Service Complaints

Rep Jerry McNerney (D-CA-09) sent Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai a letter following up on the Congressman’s request that the Chairman make publicly available all consumer complaints that the agency has received regarding internet and phone service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rep McNerney asked Chairman Pai for a commitment to do this when the Chairman testified on September 17, 2020 at the House Commerce Committee’s FCC oversight hearing.
