The FCC is developing more accurate and comprehensive information on broadband data speeds throughout the United States. The Omnibus Broadband Initiative previously announced a proposal to undertake an effort to measure performance rates for fixed Internet broadband service, and sought comment on a proposed methodology.

Commission staff from the Consumer and Government Affairs Bureau and the Office of Engineering and Technology will hold an open meeting with subject experts and service providers to discuss technical methods for performance testing of residential fixed Internet service and procedures to remotely acquire and analyze such data. The meeting will take place at 10am on July 28, 2010, in the 7th Floor North Conference Room (7-A112) at 445 12th Street SW, Washington, DC 20554.
