Joint Advisory Committee on Communications Capabilities of Emergency Medical and Public Health Care Facilities

The will hold a meeting on Friday, January 25, 2008, starting at 10:00 a.m. in the Commission Meeting Room (TW-C305), Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC 20554.

At this meeting, the Joint Committee will discuss, consider and vote on a draft report addressing emergency medical and public health care facilities’ communications capabilities, needs and options for improvement and growth. The Joint Committee also may vote on any proposed amendments. Once approved, the Joint Committee will submit the report to the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and to the United States House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce.

The Joint Committee was established by the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and the United States Department of Commerce’s Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information pursuant to Section 2201(c) of the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007, Public Law No. 110-53, 121 Stat. 266 (2007) (“9/11 Commission Act” or “Act”).
The 9/11 Commission Act requires the Joint Committee to assess: (1) specific communications capabilities and needs of emergency medical and public health care facilities, including the improvement of basic voice, data, and broadband capabilities; (2) options to accommodate growth of basic and emerging communications services used by emergency medical and public health care facilities; and (3) options to improve integration of communications systems used by emergency medical and public health care facilities with existing or future emergency communications networks. The Joint Committee’s findings must be submitted to Congress within six months of the date of enactment of the statute (i.e., February 4, 2008).
