Sen Dick Durbin Visits Dominican, Meets with Student Digital Navigators

Sen Dick Durbin (D-IL) visited Dominican University to discuss the $2.5 million in federal funding the university received through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program that has helped enhance information technology capabilities and close the digital divide for students. Sen Durbin visited one of seven classrooms that, thanks to a portion of the grant proceeds, received technological upgrades to support a hybrid of in-person and remote learning.

Spectrum Begins Construction on Broadband Network Expansion in Pettis County, Missouri

Spectrum announced construction is underway on several fiber-optic network expansion projects that will bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to more than 400 homes and small businesses in Pettis County, Missouri. The buildout is part of Spectrum’s approximately $5 billion investment in unserved rural areas, which includes $1.2 billion won in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) auction.

T-Mobile introduced two new plans to tackle broadband pain points—1) Home Internet Plus, the all-in-one plan with expanded home Wi-Fi coverage and 24/7 support for smart devices, and 2) Away, the flexible Wi-Fi solution for travelers to stay connected nationwide on T-Mobile’s network. Home Internet Plus expands the Wi-Fi signal across the home and in hard-to-reach places, with up to 2,200 square feet of additional coverage.

Spectrum Launches Gigabit Broadband, Mobile, TV and Voice Services in Barnwell County, South Carolina

Spectrum announced the launch of Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services to more than 1950 homes and small businesses in Barnwell County (SC). Spectrum’s newly constructed fiber-optic network buildout in Barnwell County is part of the company’s approximately $5 billion Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF)-related investment in unserved rural communities, partly offset by $1.2 billion in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) RDOF auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to 1.3 million customer locations across 24 states in the coming years.

Governor Gianforte Celebrates TDS Telecom Fiber Broadband Expansion in Montana

Governor Greg Gianforte celebrated the expansion of TDS Telecoms’ (TDS) network across Montana at its new facility in Butte. The $21 million investment in Butte represents one component of TDS’ larger $160 million investment in Montana. In addition to Butte, TDS is building fiber networks in Billings, Great Falls, Helena, and Missoula.

Appalachia is one of the least digitally connected regions of the United States, with households 31 percent more likely than the national population to lack a broadband subscription. In some Appalachian counties, fewer than 20 percent of households use the internet at broadband speeds in a time when connectivity is critically important for education, health, and remote work.

Grain Management announced that it has agreed to acquire a majority interest in 123NET, a premier fiber internet, colocation, and business voice services provider based in Michigan. 123NET has been at the forefront of Michigan connectivity since its founding in 1995.
